Mission

The Lynnhurst UCC Mission Board is partnering with the International Institute of MN in an effort to welcome our “one world family”.  There are many opportunities to provide services and support to the families arriving in our city:  putting together backpacks complete with school supplies for students K-12th grade, help in the set- up of the home/apartment for a family and/or assist short or long-term as a mentor to a family as they settle into the metro area.

You Can Make a Difference!

Volunteer Opportunity in our Neighborhood:
Minnesotans United for All Families, along with UCC 4 Marriage Equality and other faith-based groups, are coordinating a campaign to defeat the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage in Minnesota. Two phone bank evenings planned specifically for UCC congregations will take place on Thursday, February 9th, 6-9pm at St. Paul's UCC in St. Paul, and Tuesday, February 21st, 6-9pm at Linden Hills UCC, in Minneapolis. The organizations will conduct training in preparation for phone bank calling, as well as debriefing after the event. The focus of the calls will be to ask questions, listen and then discuss the basic concerns about an amendment that would ban marriage equality.  To sign up and/or to get more information about these phone banks, please contact Javen Swanson of OutFront Minnesota, jswanson@outfront.org, or call 612-275-8902

TRUST:

TRUST, Inc. is a nonprofit, interfaith coalition of Minneapolis congregations that has served the needs of seniors, families, and youth of Minneapolis since 1970. TRUST (which stands for Toward Renewed Unity in Service Together) now has a membership of 18 churches, representing nine different denominations. Lynnhurst UCC Church has been proud to be a member church since 1970. For more information about Trust, click http://trustinc.org/

2012 starts Lynnhurst's 4th year of participating with TRUST Urban HomeWorks (UHW) on affordable housing projects - and this will be the busiest year yet for our partners. In 2011, with our help, UHW added nearly 30 apartment units - meaning there are now nearly 70 families with incomes in the $10,000 to $17,000 range that have a landlord that can be relied upon to make their mortgage payments and provide an affordable, dignified place they call home. The 2012 goal is to increase that number to nearly 100 units and to start to re-renovate some of the properties UHW has owned the longest. If you would like to volunteer to join the crew for upcoming work days, please contact the church office for directions. We hope to see you at the sites in 2012!

Give the Gift of Independence

You can help Meals on Wheels by volunteering to deliver meals in your neighborhood once a week or once a month.  It only takes about an hour to bring a hot meal and a warm greeting to homebound individuals who currently cannot prepare meals on their own.  Please consider donating your lunch hour and give the gift of independence. Contact TRUST Meals on Wheels at 612-822-6040.

Daylight Center & School

Lynnhurst Church is a proud supporter of Daylight Center & School in Northern Kenya. The school was co-founded by Nathan Roberts, former youth minister at Lynnhurst Church, and Michael Kimpur, a former nomadic herds boy who was able to attend school through World Vision scholarships. Michael and Nathan's passion for reaching out to children from the nomadic world and providing an opportunity for education, love and hope is currently helping 150 students. Think Three!

Every third Sunday of the month, bring either three nonperishable food items or a cash donation, to be donated to a local food shelf. These days, more folks than ever are turning to food shelves to get through tough times. Help us answer Christ's call to love our neighbors, and Think Three!
