Christian Education committee working calendar
At Lynnhurst United
Church of Christ, the Christian Education committee is responsible for
a number of activities in the life of the Church. Lynnhurst is a vital
place for children and adults to learn of the living word of God.
The ongoing responsibilities of the committee are these:
Staff the Cribbery
each Sunday so parents of small children can attend services.
Hold monthly ‘parents
of young children’ meetings. These meetings cover topics of interest to
its members and often have guest speakers.
Support the teaching
volunteers and make sure all classes have teachers each week.
Work on redesigning
and enhancing children’s class rooms in the church.
The special monthly events
and responsibilities of the committee are these:

Sunday school
teacher recruitment
Teacher
Appreciation Soiree. (Teachers are invited to a committee member’s
house for treats and conversation. A wonderful time to get together
before the busy year begins.)
Select curriculum and order materials for teachers and children

Class
room clean up day.
Teachers come and get ready for the new year.
Hold a Sunday school procession during the church service.
Present an ‘Ice Cream Social’ for all to enjoy after the service.

Halloween
party. A wonderful event with a haunted house set up by the older
kids for the younger kids. The whole fmaily has fun with fortune tellers,
bobbing for apples and the rest. |
| November |

| December |
All
the children get advent calendars.
Of course there is a wonderful Christmas pageant for all to enjoy.
The 7th grade class participates in the ‘hanging of the
greens’ service in early December. |

| February |
A
church school open house is held for parents to visit their children’s
Sunday
school teacher and classroom. |
| March |
Mission
project for all children. Traditionally this has been the Heifer Project.
A great mission project in which kids collect money in thoughtful
ways and use it to purchase farm animals for people in need. |
| April |

| May |
Confirmation
breakfast is held for the confirmands and their parents before the
service in which the children are confirmed into the church.
Bibles with
the child’s name embossed on the cover are presented to all second
graders and new comers to the church who have not received a Bible.

Teacher’s
are recognized for their work and given small tokens of appreciation. |

- July |
Summer
Sunday program. A program for children of all ages to attend while
their parents attend the service. This program is very creative and
offers volunteers and children a chance to have fun and build a strong
church. |
