Lynnhurst Missions

The Lynnhurst Mission Board strives to follow Christ's example in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and comforting the afflicted, in its own community and around the world.  The Mission Board provides long term financial and volunteer support to a number of organizations.  The Mission Board and the Christian Education committee together choose a theme to focus on a particular issue.  The theme for 2007-2008 is hunger.  The theme for 2008-2009 is environmental justice.  In 2007-2008, the Mission Board provided financial support and/or volunteers to the following organizations or programs:

• Feed My Starving Children.  Lynnhurst volunteers of all ages package meals for worldwide distribution.
• Habitat for Humanity.  Lynnhurst volunteers work on-site several times a year.
• Heifer Project International.  Lynnhurst youth raise money for the Heifer Project each fall.
• Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches (GMCC).  In addition to financial support, Lynnhurst collects mittens, scarves and hats for the GMCC's Division of Indian Work.
• Loaves and Fishes hot meal line.  Every other month, volunteers either serve or cleanup at the St. Stephens Loaves and Fishes hot food line.
• Sabathani Food Shelf.  The congregation is encouraged to bring food items on the third Sunday of each month. In addition, third Sunday coffee hour proceeds are donated to Sabathani Food Shelf.
• TRUST.  Lynnhurst is one of 17 south Minneapolis churches working together in an ecumenical ministry.  Meals-On-Wheels is among many notable TRUST services to the community.
• United Theological Seminary.  The United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities is an ecumenical graduate theological school of the United Church of Christ.  Lynnhurst provides financial support to this seminary.
